How to check whether your system has compatibility for 64-bit EFI or 32-bit EFI?

By default, Apple has disabled 64-bit kernel in all Mac even in those Mac who have 64-bit kernel. So, to check your Mac has 32-bit EFI or 64-bit EFI then just follow the following steps.

  • Open Terminal
  • Enter the following command in the Terminal

ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi

  • You’ll get either EFI32 or EFI64

How to enable 64-bit Kernel in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?

There is no need to enable 64-bit kernel in Snow Leopard because it can easily run applications and software in both 32-bit and 64-bit. But a professional user wants to check and use all the features available in his/her computer.
