Google has just officially made an announcement on their Google Talk Blog that they have added a new File Transfer feature in Google Chat of iGoogle and Orkut.
They has also said that this feature is also compatible with the file transfer feature available in Google Talk, which is a standalone downloadable chatting software.
With this new file transfer feature you can share files easily and directly from the web with your friends and family who uses the desktop version.
The official Google Talk Blog states that:
“Have you ever wanted to quickly send a file to a friend whom you’re chatting with online? Starting today, you can share photos, documents, and other files while chatting in iGoogle and orkut.”

Currently, the file transfer feature is only available in iGoogle and Orkut. The Google team is working to add this feature to Gmail as well.
How to use the File Transfer feature
You can use this feature by following the steps given below:
- During a chat, go to ‘Actions’ menu
- Then, select ‘Send a file…’
