In the iPhone OS event held on April 8th at Cupertino, Apple has unveiled iPhone OS 4 and also released a beta version of iPhone OS 4 for developers to install and check it in their devices.
Guys over at Engadget has manged to download and install the iPhone OS 4.0 beta on their iPhone 3GS. After the successful installation, they showed a hands-on video walkthrough of the latest iPhone OS.
The iPhone OS 4.0 is working pretty stable, without any crashes, and other features seems to be working fine. Multitasking is working as described but without any app that support it it’s hard to test multitasking. The dock is 3D styled which looks similar to the iPad and Snow Leopard dock.
The Game Center app is present but it’s not functional since no apps support it. The zoom control is slick, the macro mode is good, and tap-to-focus feature in video mode is a nice addition. The working of spell check and Faces and Events in Photos are similar to the iPad.

It brings lots of new features and enhancements including multitasking for both users and developers, but multitasking won’t be available for original iPhone, iPhone 3G,and older generation of iPod Touch. They has also announced top seven features, and released the iPhone OS 4 beta firmware for download. iPhone OS 4 will be available for iPhone in Summer and for iPad in Fall later this year.
