Bluetooth 4.0-enabled devices to be available in late 2010

bluetooth logoThe Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) on Tuesday has unveiled more information and features of the upcoming Bluetooth version 4.0. It is said to be completed and sent to the manufacturers by the end of Q2 of 2010.

Bluetooth 4.0 comes bundled with three different technologies that is low energy technology, classic technology, and high speed technology. It will feature a ultra-low power consumption, an increased range of up to 200 feet and beyond, and faster transfer rates.

According to Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG:

“Bluetooth v4.0 throws open the doors to a host of new markets for Bluetooth manufacturers and products such as watches, remote controls, and a variety of medical and in-home sensors.  Many of these products run on button-cell batteries that must last for years versus hours and will also benefit from the longer range enabled by this new version of the Bluetooth specification”

These latest features will enable the expansion of Bluetooth technology to a new range of devices including, security systems, fitness and sports products, home entertainment systems, and health products in which button-cell batteries are used.

The Bluetooth 4.0 is expected to complete before June 30, 2010. After completion, the devices with this latest Bluetooth technology will reach the market in late 2010 or early 2011. [ Via BGR ]
