Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 has just been officially released and available for download. This jailbreaking tool is only for Windows based operating system users. This tool creates custom .ipsw firmware files which allows you to update your iPhone/iPod Touch to the latest iOS 4.0 firmware without updating the baseband. This tool is compatible with only iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 1G, and iPod Touch 2G.

Jailbreak iOS 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 – How to
Currently this jailbreaking tool only supports the following iDevices:
- iPod Touch 1G
- iPod Touch 2G (non MC)
- iPhone 2G
- iPhone 3G
- iPhone 3GS (Old bootrom)
Now, if you have any of the above mentioned iDevice then you can follow the step by step guide posted below to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod Touch on iOS 4.0 using Sn0wbreeze:
- Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below)
- Start iTunes
- Sync your iPhone/iPod Touch with your computer and backup all the data
- Download “Sn0wbreeze” (download link given below)
- Then, download “iOS 4″ for iPhone/iPod Touch (download link given below)
- Move both files you’ve downloaded that is, “Sn0wbreeze” and “iOS 4″ to your desktop (If you’ve already saved both files on desktop, then ignore this step)
- Now start “Sn0wbreeze”
- Select “Simple Mode”
- Sn0wbreeze will ask you to select the “iOS 4.0 .ipsw” firmware file
- Now press “Browse” button and select the file you’ve recently downloaded in “step 5″
- It will now verify the file you’ve selected
- Now it will show you this message: “Do you want to activate your iPhone/iPod Touch?”, if you rely on a carrier unlock then click on “Yes”, OR if you are on official carrier like AT&T then click on “No”
- It will now create custom .ipsw firmware files for your iPhone/iPod Touch, these .ipsw firmware files will be jailbroken
- Now restore your iPhone/iPod Touch to the custom .ipsw firmware file you’ve just created in the above step
- Start iTunes, “Select” iPhone/iPod Touch icon from the left sidebar
- Now press and hold the left “Shift” key on your keyboard and click on “Restore” button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” key. (Remember don’t click on “Update” or “Check for Update” button)
- iTunes will now ask you to select the location of the custom .ipsw firmware file, so select the file that you created in “step 13″ and click on “Open”
- Now iTunes will install the new iOS 4.0 firmware on your iPhone/iPod Touch automatically, so let this process complete and be patience during the installation
- During this process, the progress bar will show you the installation progress on the screen of your iPhone/iPod Touch
- Once the installation is successfully completed, your iPhone/iPod Touch will reboot automatically, and now you should have a fully jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch on the latest iOS 4.0 firmware
