Download Android 2.2 Froyo for HTC EVO 4G

HTC has just released Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint. The image of this update is now available for download and the full step by step guide on updating is posted below.

For those who don’t know, Evo 4G is powered by Android OS and 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and features a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, 8 megapixel auto-focus camera having a capability of capturing 720p HD video, 1GB built-in memory, 512MB RAM, HDMI output, HTC Sense, and a lot more.

Camcorder can use camera flash so video can be shot at night or in low light
Flash 10.1 support
Numeric PIN and alpha-numeric passwords to unlock screen
Search widget and search bar able to switch to search in different types (web, specific application, or all)
Adjustable alarm volume
Android Market widget allows installation of applications on SD card

Android 2.2 Froyo for HTC EVO 4G – How to Install Update

Download the Android 2.2 image file from the link given below and then rename it to update.zip
Note: DO NOT UNZIP THIS FILE and also make sure you didn’t rename this to update.zip.zip by accident, if your Windows is configured to not show file extensions
Place it in the root of your SD card
Reboot your phone into recovery mode by holding the “Volume Up” button while your phone is booting
You will be presented with the boot loader. In this screen you can navigate the menu using the “Volume Up/Down” buttons, and the “Power” button to selects
Select “Bootloader” and the select “Recovery”
The phone will reboot again, this time into recovery mode
Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip” (depending on your recovery image)
Once the flashing process is successfully completed then reboot to start using the latest Android 2.2 Froyo
