Yesterday, Apple has officially released iOS 4.0.2 firmware for iPhone’s and iPod Touch’s to fix the PDF exploit found in Safari which was used by JailbreakMe jailbreaking tool to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, and iOS 3.2.1 on iPad.
But you can now jailbreak iPhone 3G (which doesn’t rely on unlock) and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC model) running on iOS 4.0.2 firmware with the existing redsn0w jailbreak tool. The complete step-by-step guide for jailbreaking with redsn0w (redsnow 0.9.5b5-5) is posted below.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 with Redsn0w- How to
Follow the step by step guide posted below to jailbreak your iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 firmware using redsn0w jailbreak tool:
- Download iOS 4.0.2 firmware for iPhone (download link below)
- Update to the firmware using the ipsw file you have just downloaded via iTunes
- Download and run redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 (download link below)
- Point it to the original iOS 4.0 final version ipsw firmware file to proceed (not to the latest iOS 4.0.2 firmware file)
- Select “Install Cydia” and then click “Next”
- Now first “switch off” your device and then “plug it into the computer” before clicking “Next”
- Connect your device in recovery mode (go to recovery mode by pressing the “Power” and “Home” buttons continuously)
- Now rest of the task are automated
- Once all the tasks are completed, then your iPhone will automatically reboot
- Now you should have a jailbroken iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 firmware
Download iOS 4.0.2, Redsnow, iTunes 9.2.1
The Redsnow 0.9.5 beta 5-5 supports only iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.0.2 firmware. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X based operating systems.
