iPhone Developer of the Chronic Dev Team named as Joshua Hill has just confirmed via his Twitter account that he is going to release an updated version of Greenpois0n jailbreak tool with support for iOS 4.2.1 as soon as he will be done adding sandbox patches.
For those who don’t know, Greenpois0n is based on Geohot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit which has pwned all iOS devices for life already. But this release of Greenpois0n jailbreak tool might be like a tethered jailbreak.

This jailbreak is known as tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak but only applies to new iOS devices like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPad, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 2G (MC Model).
If you have old iOS devices like iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model), then you can tethered jailbreak it now using redsn0w 0.9.6 beta jailbreak tool, our complete how-to guide is posted here.
You can also untethered jailbreak your iOS devices like iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G using redsn0w 0.9.7 beta, but you must need to have SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 saved, if you have SHSH blobs saved and wanted to untethered jailbreak your iOS device then follow our complete how-to guide posted here.
If you don’t have SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 saved, then you will have to wait for upcoming Comex’s untethered jailbreak tool which will be released after the official release of next iOS firmware (i.e. may be iOS 4.2.2/iOS 4.3) by Apple.
UPDATE: The upcoming GreenPois0n untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak tool will not require you to have SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 saved on Cydia, read more about it here.
