Just follow the step by step guide posted below to root/jailbreak your Google Nexus One phone with Superboot. I'm not responsible if you brick your device. The steps are as follows:

1. Download Superboot from here
2. Now extract the Superboot file in your computer
3. Put your device in bootloader mode by following the steps posted here
4. Perform this step depending on your operating system/platform
   • For Windows platform:
     Double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat'
   • For Mac OS X platform:
     Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh' followed by './install-superboot-mac.sh'
   • For Linux platform:
     Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh' followed by './install-superboot-linux.sh'
5. Now your device should be rooted/jailbroken

This rooting was possible because the devices distributed by Google had engineering bootloader on it which has granted access to full file system. The retail devices have locked bootloader, but thanks to Paul at Modaco forums who has managed to unlock it to so that you can easily root your retail device to get full file system access on Android 2.1.

Modaco Team has found the fix to this problem and you can unlock the bootloader easily by following the steps given below.

You see, in the bootloader of the Nexus One there is a secret command. A command that, when issued via fastboot, gives you the warning you see here, after which you can merrily unlock your bootloader and flash anything you want onto your device (including our superboot rooting image).

How to unlock Google Nexus One Bootloader

To unlock the Google Nexus One phone bootloader, just follow the step by step guide posted below. I'm not responsible if you brick your device. The steps are as follows:

1. Download and extract fastboot from here (Windows, Linux and Mac included)
2. Run a command prompt / terminal at the directory you just extracted
3. Type 'fastboot-windows oem unlock' or './fastboot-mac oem unlock' or './fastboot-linux oem unlock' (as appropriate)
4. Proceed on your merry bootloader unlocked way

How to get Bootloader mode in Google Nexus One

There are two different ways to get bootloader mode in Google Nexus One phone. I've posted both methods to get bootloader mode, you can follow any one of the below given methods:

Method Number 1

1. Turn off your phone
2. Press and hold the Trackball
3. Turn on your phone
4. Now you'll get the bootloader mode

Method Number 2

1. Turn off your phone
2. Remove battery
3. Plug in USB cable
4. Wait for the battery icon to appear on the screen
5. When battery icon appears, replace battery
6. Then tap the Power button while holding the Camera key
7. Now you'll get the bootloader mode

According to sales estimate prepared by Flurry, just 20,000 Nexus One phones were sold in its first week of sales on the market. They has compared the results of Nexus One with three other phones, the Google Nexus One was outsold by myTouch 3G by three times, Droid by more than twelve times and iPhone 3GS by eighty times.

The Flurry blog states about the sales of Google Nexus One report that

Flurry monitors usage of more than 10,000 developers' applications on iPhone and Android platforms. In total, Flurry tracks applications on approximately four out of every five iPhone and Android handsets in the market, generating over 25 million end user sessions per day. To estimate first week sales totals for the Nexus One, myTouch 3G, Droid and iPhone 3GS, Flurry detected new handsets within its system, and then made adjustments to account for varying levels of Flurry application penetration by handset. Flurry additionally crosschecked its estimates against Apple actual sales, released for iPhone 3GS, which totaled more than one million units over the three days, June 19 - 21, 2009. Features and Specifications of Google Nexus One phone

The Nexus One is built by HTC and will soon be sold by Google. This phone runs on Android 2.1 with a 1GHz of Snapdragon processor. It features a 3.7-inch screen with a display resolution of 480 x 800, comes with 4GB microSD card which can be expanded to 32GB, a 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. It also includes the proximity sensor, accelerometer and a light sensor. This phone has a built-in 5 megapixel of camera with LED flash light. But, there is no multi-touch in the Nexus One (but I'm sure that the hack will soon be released to enable multi-touch on it).

The above specifications exactly matches those specifications that was leaked by Engadget few days ago. As reviewed by Engadget, the Nexus One is not different than the Motorola Droid, but they said that the design of the Google phone is much better and the device is somewhat faster than Motorola Droid. They also reported that the phone is fast and smooth, but it shutters very slightly when moving or shifting between home pages, otherwise running app and moving around the long list is super speedy.

All the details of UI are very similar in looks and feel, but there are some visual enhancements and minor tweaks in UI which includes interactive and animated live wallpapers, improved icons, increased number of home screen to five. There's also a bit of error in response and accuracy of keyboard which can be fixed by upgrading the device. Overall the Android 2.1 on Google phone seems to be much more improved and enhanced as compared to its predecessor.

Google Nexus One phone is expected to be launch on January 5 in an Android Press Conference arranged by Google in Mountain View, California. The unlocked device is expected to be available to buy for $530. All the photographs attached in this post are the courtesy of Engadget.

The blogger at tnkgrl mobile has confirmed the following specifications of the Google Nexus One phone that she has tested.

• The Google Nexus One phone is extremely thin
• Comes pre-installed with 4GB microSD memory card
• Capacity of battery is 1400 mAh
• It has OLED display screen with same size and resolution as Motorola Droid
• 3G will only work on T-Mobile USA and only EDGE will work on AT&T
• It comes fully unlocked and can be used with any mobile phone carrier
• It works much faster than the Motorola Droid
• No support for multi-touch function in Google Maps and Browser
• No physical dedicated button for camera
• The working of the trackball is similar to other HTC phones
• The performance of the built-in 5MP camera is decent, but the flash is weak
• All incoming calls are routed on the normal way
• Micro USB connector is used for both, data transferring and charging

Google Nexus One Phone will be the most awaited Android based phone of the upcoming year. It is a phone which is designed by Google team and is known as the Nexus One, the hardware of this phone is manufactured by HTC and it comes pre-installed with the latest version of Android version 2.1.
